Peter and Katie in Hawaii

Katie just arrived. Direct from Chicago to Kona. All worked well. She is swimming with Hank right now. The in villa coaching hasbeen very helpful...and I am also glad to have someone to share the coaching attention with!Ran 12+ miles yesterday with Hank and then played some of my best golf everin the afternoon. Maybe it is the yoga and stretching I am forced todo every morning. I try to refrain from rolling my eyes and just breathe frommy hip while letting the ocean engulf me.Today we swam close to the full swim distance of 2.4 miles. That has gone better than I expected. I was laughing to myself while swimming today abouttaking advanced beginner's about 5 years in a row at Sandy Beach (aka the Porter River). Eyes closed, cheeks puffed out holding my breath and couldn't graduate to intermediate for the life of me. Finally found an interrmediate class at CampChristopher where I could pass because all you had to do was tread water for 5 minutes(as opposed to swimming the full length of Sandy Beach probably all of 100 yards).Despite all that quite confident about the swim, should be about an hour and a half.Running has gone really well. No problems and I am quite sure if I just was runninga marathon, I could run sub 4 hours. Swim shouldn't affect that, bike most definitely will.No knee pain at all. Go figure. And the b ike, which I always thought would be the easiest, may turn out to be a biggerchallenge. Hank and I have now ridden 75 of the 112 mile route (40 today after the swim). It is windy, hot and slower going. I can easily ride 112, the challenge is doing it here on this route. And then having enough gas to do the marathon after. Hank is 100%convinced I've got the swim covered, run is tough just because it is last but I won't startit un til late afternoon and then finish after dark when it is cool and I have been running well. Surprisingly, for me, it may be all about the bike.Katie's arrival thought today was "I have already finished this once, it is somewhat of a hail mary to finish it this time, so why ruin a good 2 week vacation with lots of training which may just deplete my energy anyway". That was the thinking prior to greeting Hank. Stay tuned.Peter
